Pindul Cave is located about 7 kilometers south of the city center Wonosari, Gunung Kidul in Indonesia. This cave is famous for its cave tubing that offers a chance to float in the underground river inside the cave and an exhilarating journey inside the earth’s belly by tubing.
The river flow comes from Gedong Tujuh Spring which is never dried. The flow of the river is calm so that kids can join in this activity. Before the end of the journey, the visitors will cross a bis pond bathed in natural sun’s ray through a hole in the ceiling. This is a perfect spot to take photos, take a rest, or swim toward the land before the adventure finish.

Inside the Cave
The cave has many gorgeous stalactites and these become the main attraction. They hang from the ceiling of the caves. There is one particular stalactite in the Pindul Cave that ranked fourth biggest in the world. It’s really big that it needs five people holding hands to surround it. In the center of the cave, there is a big pillar that was formed from a stalactite and stalagmite unification and dates back to thousands of years ago.
Besides stalactites, there are abstract designs on the wall of the cave which are formed by water, crystal rock, and moon milk. In the middle of the cave, there are pearl droplets in which they drip when people pass by.
The story behind the name Pindul Cave
According to legend, the name of the cave came from a man’s journey of finding his father. That man was Joko Singlulung. He looked for his father everywhere, forests, hills, rivers, and caves. When he entered one of the caves at Bejiharjo Village, his cheek grazed the rock and swelled. Then, the name Pindul was derived from the term ‘pipi gebendul’ which mean swollen cheek.
