What is Timang Beach?
Timang Beach is one of the beautiful beaches in Gunung Kidul city, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Timang Beach is unlike other beaches.
The island is a huge cliff of rock with a very steep cliff. The beach is divided into two different areas. The first part is the east part which is a clean white sand beach similar to other white beaches sand around the region. While on the second part which is on the western side is a steep rock hills that is directly near to the sea. On this rocky coast, the scenery will be very wonderful because there is a large stone standing firmly on the beach. The big rock or island is known as Batu Panjang or Pulau Panjang and Pulau Timang.
Timang Beach has a very charming view with white sand that lies along the coast. Pandanus plant lined up around the beach adds the beautiful panorama of Timang Beach. If you want to spend your holiday with natural refresh vibe, you can put it in your vacation list.
Where is Timang Beach?
Timang beach is located in Pedukuhan Danggolo, Purwodadi, Tepus, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It’s about 35 km from Wonosari city and it spends 3 hours from Yogyakarta city by car or motorbike.
Incridible Gondola
There is something special about this beach which is rarely found in the other beaches,that is a cable car (gondola). The cable car on Timang Beach is not a modern one, but a traditional cable car made with simple materials. It can lead you crossing to the rock island in the west of Timang Beach for about 50-100 meters long.
You have to be careful when the gondola reaching the middle part because there are a deep ocean beneath and big waves that will greet you. Of course, it needs a big courage to ride this. However, this extreme situation becomes a main attraction which tourists looking for.
If you want to try something different, you can cross the sea by walking through the bridge that has same final spot as gondola. It offers the same sensation as well. How much those cost? For local tourist, it costs IDR 150.000 for gondola and IDR 50.000 for bridge. For international tourist, it costs IDR 200.000 for gondola and IDR 100.000 for bridge.
How abput sunset view point?
Timang Beach, of course, offers a gorgeous sunset scenery. It shows the beauty of sunset with the silhouette of rocky island. To see this beautiful panorama, you need to go from Jogja at 2 p.m.
Lobster Spot
Long time ago before many people know about Timang Beach, the gondola was used to catch lobster by local people. They often use the cable car to get to Timang Island which is rich in lobster. It has a high price that affect local economic development. That’s why they willingly struggle to get there with a dangerous terrain.
How to go to the location?
It will be easier if you use private transportation (your own transport or renting). You can use car or motorbike to go there but the road doesn’t support for using bus (the road doesn’t wide enough). If you want to use public transportation, you have to go to Wonosari bus station first then take a small bus to Jepitu and stop at three junction Timang Beach, then take a motorbike (ojek) or a Jeep to the Timang Beach.
